Dj Funk (a.k.a. Richie Parker) is one of Irelands most talented up & coming Dj/Producers of electronic music. Richie got his first real break in 2002 with a dj set at kilkenny's well known dance venue zoo club after one or two more sets richie became resident dj at zoo for a further 2 years and sapped up a wealth of knowledge at the club supporting top irish dj's such as john power (2fm) Mr Spring (2fm) Mark McCabe (2fm) Al Gibbs (FM 104) Dj Ted (Irish Smirnoff DJ of the year 2002) and Marq Walsh (Sir Henerys) just to name a small few.
Between 2002 / 03 Richie was invited onto 2fm's dance show on 3 ocaisions, was invited to support egendary dance act K-Klass at the 1500 capacity venue "south" in tramore, Waterford and his sets at zoo started to attract people from all over the south east. Between 2004 / 2005 richie did various gigs around south east whilst at the same time started to dabble in music production, growing confident in his productions richie sought the advice of Desy Balmer, Manager of Nice & Nasty Records Dublin & also tour dj with the Prodigy from 1992 - 1994 Balmer guided Richie twoards releasing his Debut Record which was released on vinyl on an imprint called KK Dance Records in 2006. The International E.P. With a Nice and Nasty Remix caught the attention of Dj 3000 Sales manager of "Submerge" one of the leading techno distributors in the world, Dj 3000 liked the record so much he featured it in his top ten records of 2006, Not bad for a debut record.
The record caught the interest of other people too such as Mark EG who wrote reviews of new records for M8 Magazine and featured the record in the legendary Dance Mag, The record was also played by legendary techno dj/Producer Ben Simms. Richie was also invited to fly over to the capital of Montenegro, Podgoriza to play a 5 hour dj set.. Having to ditch the pursuit of his dj / producing career in 2007 until now to deal with other matters richie plans on making a firm comeback with new dj sets, productions and remixes in the pipeline... Richie is predomonately a house/techno Dj who uses mainly vinyl in his sets which is becoming a rarity in today’s digital age.
Richie said I've always preferred the hands on approach when Dj’ing, I could never get the same feel or passion from Cds or any other digital Methods.
Richie really gets busy behind the decks constantly working the records to create a flurry of sounds which blend into each track, you wont find Richie parker sitting back waiting for one record to end to play another, Richie constantly watches the room feeling it out to ensure the right track is played.
His do sets are heavily influenced by records from producers such as do sneak, green velvet, dave Clarke, Robert Armani, Jesper Dallbach, DJ Pierre, Joey Beltram and Jeff Mills to name but a few.
Keep an eye out for this guy...!
